Recruitment plan for this year

So, the plan for recruitment this year is to engage the new recruits who come to the first meeting in a letter writing campaign if they want to volunteer. We want to have some DAC vets go with them to get letters signed at student groups that are friendly to us and that we have some kind of partnership with. This way the new recruits get engaged from the onset and don't feel too overwhelmed because we will be there with them and because the student groups are likely to be sympathetic to the cause.

What do you guys think?

Webmaster constitutional amendment

Legislative text:
*Add one position to the Outreach and External Relations Committee called "Webmaster".
*Webmaster would be responsible for making changes to and managing the Darfur Action Committee website, including, but not limited to the following URL's: www.international.ucla.edu/darfur, and the DAC Facebook group.

Notes:
-Webmaster would essentially be responsible for telling Sheila Breeding, DAC's rep at the African Studies Department, what changes we want to make to the UCLA-based website so that she can make them herself.
-Adding this position to the OERC means that the OERC's co-chairs are responsible for overseeing the work of the Webmaster.

Youth Noise

In case anyone is interested......

I'm Kate from YouthNoise (www.youthnoise.com), a social networking site for young activists. We have partnered with Nike to create Play City, an initiative to encourage young people to use sports to make the world a better place. You can find out more about Play City at www.youthnoise.com/playcit
y - you should check it out, it's actually pretty cool (I didn't design it so I can say that).

Anyway, I'm writing to you because you are an admin on the Darfur Awareness Week at UCLA group. We are contacting college-aged people in the Los Angeles area to help us start a movement that would encourage people to use sports for good- having a skateboarding competition to raise money for cancer research or organizing a soccer tournament for disadvantage kids, for example. We still have a few spots left in the first-ever Play City Training Camp in LA, and we thought that this might be something you might be interested in being a part of. To learn more, check out http://www.youthnoise.com/playcity, or go to our YouthNoise Play City page (http://www.new.facebook.com/pages/YouthNoise-Play-City/18339579876?ref=s) for some ideas and resources for potential projects.

Oh, and one last thing - could you send this out to your group's members and let them know about this opportunity? We really need your help in spreading the word about this whole deal. If you have any questions/comments/complaints, feel free to email me at kate@youthnoise.org or respond here.

Thanks so much,

Dates for Leadership Retreat

Two options I'm pondering:

Sept 26-28: We leave Friday night and get back early Sunday
Sept 27-28: Leave late Saturday afternoon (around 5pm) and return late Sunday evening.

I know that if we go with the first option I'm gonna have to miss most of Saturday because of the football game I'm supposed to go to. Going with the second option would make us busy bees during retreat, but the people going to this retreat will most likely be DAC veterans who won't mind a short and busy period of time. People can always leave to go to retreat earlier if they'd like to do one-on-ones or do some sort of bonding. But before I go too far with that, I'm gonna research the policies of the campgrounds Allison suggested.

08-09 CSP signatories

I was thinking of having next year's signatories be Allison, Tiffany, and I. Allison would need signatory status so she can handle finance stuff without hassle; Tiffany so she can reserve rooms for events without bringing someone else along to do it with her; and me because I reserve rooms for membership meetings, handle finance stuff time-to-time, and represent DAC to the UCLA administration.

What do you all think about this? I'll be making a decision by 8/15.

Tabling thoughts

Hey guys,

I just wanted to include a quick run-down of what Ashish and I have discussed so far with regard to publicity/tabling for next year so that you are all in the loop. He and I will keep talking over the course of the summer and take into consideration all of your comments, suggestions, ect.

-when is the best time to use tabling? do we want to push at the beginning of the quarters to make sure that DAC has a face on campus, and then pause around weeks 3 and 4 for midterms, and then push again, and then stop around finals?
-do we want people on bruin walk as often as possible to make sure we're out there, or does it reach a point of plateau where people just stop listening because they're so used to us being there. basically, do we want to use tabling just to push events or as a constant thing?
-we need a way to spice up tabling to make it more enjoyable for the people tabling and make other people more likely to stop and listen
-this ties in closely to the point before: we need to find a way to get people to sign up for tabling. because we've had quite a bit of trouble with that in the past.
-also, is Ashish going to be the tabling coordinator for DAC as well as STAND at ucla? he's open to the idea but we'd have to hash out details ect....it's something we should discuss as a board, so post your comments about how you think we should intertwine DAC tabling and STAND tabling here!

thanks guys.

Finance Committee

Some ideas for fundraising are:

(1) Eco-cell: This is a cell phone recycling program where we would collect used phones on campus and send them into Eco-cell. Depending on the quality of the phone, we could get between 45 cents and $15; the average phone is about $4.

(2) Alumni Newsletter: This would be an effort between Finance and the new Alumni Coordinator, if that amendment passes. It would be to inform alumni of DAC events, connect us with resources they may have, and also to receive donations. We can add a section with current events or topics that fit into our objectives

(3) Barcopa: This is a bar in Santa Monica that DAC has worked with in the past. Two years ago, $1500 was raised in one night and went towards International Medical Corp (or something like that).

(4) TV Tapings: This would really just to get some quick, guaranteed funds when needed.

So none of these really fit well into the objectives, but they can be used to raise money for activities that fit into the objectives.

DAC involvement in GAM

Hola loves.

So, Event Programming Committee (EPC; Zohreh and I, lol) have decided to do Darfur and All-Sudan awareness days.

GAM should take place in November except for one event in the last week of October. Tentative dates:

Week 5 Oct. 29- Holocaust by JSU
W6 Nov. 4- Darfur by DAC
W6 Nov. 5- All-Sudan by DAC
W7 Nov. - Burma by BCB
W8 Nov. 18- Rwanda by RC
W9 Nov. 25- American Indian by AISA

There's reasoning behind the events and their respective dates. Holocaust, being the most familiar of all genocides to most students, comes first. The Darfur and All-Sudan days are during Election Week, purposely putting the issue in the minds of voters. Same reasoning for Burma in the following week. American Indian is in time for Thanksgiving (AISA does a lot of awareness about historical accuracy of this day). Still, the dates are tentative because we're coordinating with so many groups that have their own programming.

That brings me to question- Should DAC EPC focus on the two awareness days and let STAND coordinate with JSU and AISA? Or should we program and coordinate? Let me know!

And now I present our ideas for Darfur and All-Sudan awareness days. :)

For Darfur, we will have a simulation that is similar to the situation in Darfur refugee camps in order to bring proximity and raise awareness on different aspects of the genocide. The set up will be like Camp Darfur (see: Camp Darfur.) And each tent will feature different aspects of the genocide: refugee situation, history of the conflict, and international response. For example, in the refugee-situation tent, we are moving forward with the idea of bringing a photo exhibition, personal testimonies, work of humanitarian aid groups, and solutions to problems in camps (e.g. solar cooker project). The event might take place in Wilson Plaza, in the afternoon (12-4?).

As for the All-Sudan awareness day, we are educating on the civil war, ongoing struggles to keep the CPA, and their significance for Sudan as a whole, including Darfur, in the daytime activity. How we execute this is still in the works, so any suggestions is welcomed!! In the evening, we want to screen GOD GREW TIRED OF US followed with a panel discussion. This might all be followed up with a community service project/trip, DEPENDING on many things.

Disclaimer: All of these ideas are in Spark Notes (See: the infamous site where high schoolers do not think for themselves) format. For more details, read the up-and-coming EPC blog. :)

Right now bro!

I agree completely.

Tabling after the first couple of weeks of school really only attracts Robert Hutchins--which is not exactly our goal.

Is there anyway we can get flyers up in the dorms in the first couple of weeks of school? I know it takes awhile to go through ORL but that might be a good way to publicize to freshers.

Also, we should all wear our Darfur shirts as often as possible during fall quarter to show that we have a strong presence. The green shirts are good, but if everyone agreed to those orange "Vote for Darfur" shirts that Rohan suggested, we would definitely not be missed.

Yes!

We need this position. We have lots of resources we can tap into, like Mr. Sterling.

Membership Committee Constitutional Amendment

Label for this discussion is "Alumni Relations Coordinator". President will be making a decision on this amendment on 8/1/2008.

Amendment
An additional position on the Membership Committee will be created: the "Alumni Relations Coordinator". The Alumni Relations Coordinator (hereafter referred to as the ARC) is responsible for maintaining DAC's relations with its alumni membership.

Legislative notes:
-This person can ensure that DAC can benefit from the professional resources alumni DAC members can provide to us.
-This person would be responsible for keeping alumni DAC members in the loop on DAC's activities, and also to encourage participation from DAC's alumni in DAC's activities.

Let me know what you think! I'm open to giving this position additional responsibilities as well.

Finance Chair Constitutional Amendment passed. Yay for DAC administration!

We've reached consensus!

Ladies and Gentlemen, DAC's four objective for the 2008-2009 year:

1. Get presidential candidates to promise multilateral diplomacy aimed at achieving a peace agreement for Sudan.

2. Get the next president to address the issue with the US's intelligence deal with Khartoum.

3. Get the next president to pursue a vigorous and multilateral diplomatic effort aimed at achieving a peace agreement based on the fundamentals of the "All-Sudan Solution".

4. If necessary, get 1,000,000 letters signed, which would be addressed to the next president and pledge full support of a NATO solution in the case that all diplomatic options have been exhausted.

DAC Projects for 2008-2009

Label for this discussion is "Projects 08-09".

What projects/campaigns should we do next year to achieve our four chosen objectives?

For your convenience, our 08-09 objectives:

Don't forget to label your post!

Publicity and a Role for Tabling

Label for this discussion is "Publicity and a Role for Tabling".

I've found tabling to be an inefficient tool of publicizing DAC's activities and promoting its advocacy campaigns. However, it is a very good tool when it comes to promoting our visibility on campus, and it is true that without tabling some students will forget that we exist (I've come to learn that Facebook cannot solve this problem, so without tabling, we only exist in virtual reality).

My suggestions for publicity:

-For tabling, volunteers simply make themselves available at the table and take idle time to get homework done. Hopefully this will give incentive for people to make the commitment to table, knowing they can get homework done while they're there. If anyone approaches the table, the volunteer can ask them to sign up for the mailing list, sign the letters, hand them flyers, and answer any questions they might have about the situation in Darfur or DAC. It's my belief that there are too many distractions for students passing through Bruinwalk to lend meaningful attention to our cause and too many ways for them to ignore volunteers and the message they're trying to send. Even going door-to-door to get letters signed and pass out flyers is more efficient than tabling, since you're actually engaging individuals. Tabling may give passers-by some DAC facetime, which is valuable, but that facetime is interferred with by the numerous Bruinwalk distractions, the deadliest one being the iPod/iPhone.

-There are other, better tools we can use to publicize. Putting out flyers on classroom desks (in the reliable, early morning, and only in the early morning) before classes ensures that the flyers reach more students. Classroom announcements also captivate the student audience's attention. Chalking also works well in grabbing the attention of students who are bored in lecture. Row walking, when done right, works very well for getting letters signed. Also, showing up to student group meetings to get letters signed is effective as well, especially when you grab their attention with an announcement about the letter's content. We may want to focus much more attention to organizing with these tactics rather than tabling.

I'd like to reiterate that I don't think this means we should do away with tabling, not at all. I just think we can use tabling for the purpose of DAC's visibility more than anything else, but it's not the best tactic for successfully advocating for a cause or promoting events. The other tactics I discussed are a little more difficult to organize with, but they yield much greater gains than tabling. For instance, I hear people compliment us on our events' visibility in the classrooms a lot, but I never hear the same thing with regards to Bruinwalk.

Let us know what you think!

Constitutional amendment: Finance Chair duties

Proposal open for discussion until this Sunday, 7/20. On 7/20, the President will decide whether to pass the proposed amendment. Label for this discussion is "Finance Chair Constitutional Amendment".

The Finance Chair, in the case where both the President and Vice President are not able to fulfill presidential responsibilities simultaneously, will serve in the position of President until either the Vice President or President is able to return to fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.

Legislative Notes:

-As already noted in the constitution, if the Vice President is able to fulfill presidential responsibilities while the President is not, the Vice President must serve in the position of President until the President is able to return to his/her constitutional responsibilities.

Reasoning:

-Because the Finance Chair is the Board member most familiar with the internal workings and fiduciary responsibilities, this person is most qualified to step in, temporarily, to run DAC's administration.
-Allison says she can serve in this capacity should we need her to.

San Clemente

Correction: the campground by the beach is in San Clemente, not San Juan Capistrano. And there are campgrounds 1/4 mile from the beach as well. But we would have to reserve in advance to get on that close to the shore.

Clarification of NATO objective (#4)

In response to Zohreh's comment, all I can say is that this is an air campaign involving all the member nations of NATO, which is the purpose of NATO's charter. It is like the campaign in Kosovo in that very vague sense, and I don't know anything more than that. The basic idea for this objective is that we would show our support for NATO's involvement if that is our last option (meaning that ALL diplomatic options have been exhausted and we have no choice but to use force against perpetrators of war crimes in order to create conditions conducive to the signing of a long term peace agreement).

Retreat

Camping sounds fun! There is a good campground down in San Juan Capistrano that is about 1 mile off of the shore. I also know of a campground 30 minutes north of UCLA. We would have to hike a few miles to reach it but the hike is not strenuous. Definitely no more than one hour. This one is nice because it is pitch black and the sky is illuminated by stars.

Retreat at my house may be possible, but there will be no alcohol allowed. It doesn't matter to me either way.

Four objectives!

One goal and four objectives sound excellent to me.

Genocide Awareness Month, by STAND

The label for this is "Genocide Awareness Month".

STAND E-Board was thinking about doing a Genocide Awareness Month with the participation of all three of its groups (Bruin Campaign for Burma, Darfur Action Committee, and Rwanda Coalition). We were thinking about highlighting the American Indian Genocide, Holocaust, Burma, Rwanda, and Darfur over five weeks (one event per week). We'd like to do this in November and December, so this can be our big beginning-of-the-year event and can help all three clubs boost their memberships.

Would you all be interested in having DAC participate in this? To be clear, DAC would most likely have to take on most of the burden in programming this since it has the biggest membership out of all the STAND groups. We can discuss how we should share the burden.

Also, if you have suggestions for this, please feel free to post them.

Genoc

One Goal. Four Objectives.

After our discussions and collective research, I am suggesting that since we seem to agree that our goal is to reach a peace agreement based on the fundamentals of the All-Sudan Solution we should settle on pursuing these four political objectives next school year:

1. Raising awareness of and properly addressing the US intel deal with Khartoum ("properly addressing" means either we keep it going provided we seriously pursue a peace agreement in Sudan or we break the deal).
2. Get US presidential candidates to promise multilateral diplomacy in Sudan
3. Get the next US president to send full-time diplomatic staff to q'tet countries and Sudan
4. If necessary, send 1,000,000 signed letters, addressed to the next president, that state full support of a NATO solution in the case that all diplomatic options have been exhausted. a NATO solution would entail an air campaign in which all NATO member-states participate, and diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a peace agreement would resume following this campaign.

Let me know what you think. I'd like to finalize our decision on our political objectives by the end of this week.

Leadership Retreat Discussion

The label for this discussion is "Leadership Retreat".

I'm looking to hold a Leadership Retreat on the weekend before Week 1 of Fall Quarter (9/26-28). Is this something everyone would be interested in doing? If so, what would you like to have accomplished at the retreat? Lastly, if you have a house that can hold at least ten people (you decide if they can be drunk or not) and would be willing to offer it up for this retreat, you would be loved forever.... Of course, I'm open to other ideas as well as far as where to do this (camping trip?).

Please reply this post with your thoughts on the two questions posed. Thanks!

Ensuring Action in Worst Case Scenario

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful posts! Let's continue trying to formulate this objective, because it will be guiding everything we'll be doing for the rest of the year.

So what happens if the Khartoum government absolutely refuses to sign an "All-Sudan" peace deal, and no reasonable incentive can persuade them not to do this? This is not at all an impossible scenario. Luis Moreno-Ocampo has currently been conducting a very intense investigation into war crimes commited in the region, and his investigation seems to keep uncovering more potential perpetrators eligible for prosecution. Mounting criminal evidence against members of the Khartoum government would most likely cause the government to outright refuse any offer to sign a peace deal that necessarily includes a provision that criminal investigations will be completed in full and perpetrators will be prosecuted by the Hague. It is possible that all parties will be receiving a hand full of get-out-of-jail-free cards in any case (or will have to settle for national expulsion) for the sake of getting a peace deal signed, but we know that the UN has already decided that a handful of higher up officials will be prosecuted if successfully arrested. But ultimately the corruption in Sudan's power structure may prove to be too great to let go, and if this is the case, it puts a peace agreement with Sudan's current ruling regime in danger.

John Prendergast has suggested that the US, China, France, and all other NATO countries get ready to take military action in Sudan in case a peace agreement looks too far out of reach. Assuming this is the right solution to the problem (which I happen to agree with), our goal then needs to be to have the presidential candidates make the voters perceive that they are serious about doing something in Darfur, without mentioning the possibility of a NATO campaign (because with a war-weary America, that just sounds scary) and without having them walk themselves in the trap of promising something less that will actually not work but sure sounds like a serious measure of diplomacy (such as the promise of a no-fly zone or more "heavy" sanctions). Candidates can instead keep to the message that vigorous diplomacy needs to be pursued in Sudan, and when it comes to keeping them from walking into a trap of bad promises, we can make sure that STAND's "Ask the Candidates" campaign doesn't ask moderators to question candidates on what will happen if a peace agreement fails. Also, the more often we are able to get the candidates to repeat their promise of pursuing a diplomatic solution in Sudan, the more they'll get the right political message across and the more political capital they'll earn for themselves to spend on Darfur.

To be sure, a military intervention would not be the last action we'd take in Sudan, because our goal would still be to pursue a peace agreement after that, but in this case we would hopefully have the opportunity to prosecute the perpetrators.

Year Objectives

Hey guys,

I hope this gets posted in the right area, I'm still not a blogging expert.

I first year objective is basically to second what Allison already said about US humiliation. We'd like to leave this open for discussion and get your feedback. I have a couple ideas about it. The first is that it's necessary. When Allison and I have talked about it we've brought up the fact that is an uphill battle, it will be incredible difficult (especially because the US political climate still holds that US safety is more important than Darfuri lives, lets just be honest) and yes there is a good chance that we won't get what we want. BUT, I think it's a tad hypocritical to call attention to all these other governments, groups and their roles and just ignore the role the US plays, either because it's just too hard or because we think that we're going to be lone voices in the fight. And if we do it, we probably will be. If that means that you guys think it's not a worthy effort that's okay too, we'd just like you to think about it and tell us what your ideas are.

I think that we did a fairly good job last year with making DAC more visible on campus, and one of my year objectives is that that continues. I think we need to re-evaluate our tabling methods (which has been discussed earlier) and I'm open to all sorts of advice/criticism about that Ashish and I will work on it together. Also, the publicity committee has 0 members right now (well, me and Allison but Allison also has another large position) so I'd like to see the committee grow and take some new approaches to publicizing events, ect. I think that instead of publicizing just DAC we should focus on publicizing how people can have a real effect on the situation, hands on. It's always more fun to actually do something and understand how it's going to help. So if someway we could find a way to use that to draw in new people that would be great.

Also, this isn't really so much of a year objective as, well, I guess it is a year objective. I'd like to see us become more efficient, and see our meetings in general (both general and board but especially board) function a bit more smoothly and quickly (especially quickly). So if we could find a way to do that and still keep things running well that would be awesome! Maybe we can allot certain amounts of time to a topic so that people stay on track? I know that sounds very controlled, but I think a lot of us have been frustrated by the meetings at various times.

That's it for me. I'll post more if it comes to mind.

Kristen

Ideas for DAC 08-09 Mission

Darfur Action Committee
Objective of the Year

Basically, I believe that we should join the ENOUGH Project in its plan to stop the genocide through peace, protection and punishment. Here’s an outline of ENOUGH’s plan, followed by ways DAC can join the plan:

- Mission: Ensure Peace and Security in Darfur

§ Appoint a single, empowered mediator

· Produce a comprehensive draft agreement

· Begin peace talks with key constituencies in Darfur over the draft agreement

· Involve the Quartet in peace talks

§ Support the mediator with coordinated international leverage

· US, China, France, UK

o US Special Envoy should have two full-time deputies working the Darfur and CPA issues as well as a field-based team with personnel in Khartoum, Chad and Juba

§ Address the Darfur conflict in its local and national contexts

§ Protection

· Deploy all 26,000 UNAMID troops by the end of 2008

· Ensure humanitarian access

§ Accountability

· Impose multilateral costs on individuals most responsible for violence targeting civilians or for obstructing humanitarian relief efforts

o UN sanctions on key individuals

o UN-imposed comprehensive arms embargo

o Addition support to ICC

o Ensure Khartoum implements the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005

- Ways DAC can join the plan

§ Educate the campus on the All-Sudan situation in order for them to understand the Darfur conflict in its local and national contexts

· EPC proposal in the making!

§ Continue to educate on the urgency of Darfur

· EPC proposal in the making!

§ Call on students to be active against the genocide through letter writing campaigns and phone banking

· Letters/phonebanking will push the Administration to be a serious part of the Quartet and to be serious with other policies (see: single, empowered mediator, protection and accountability)

HSAOP goals: Anjana Puri

HSAOP had a meeting today in which we planned the budget breakdown for the CAC funding application. We want to expand HSAOP. We want to keep teaching students with the four week class, but we also want to offer a one hour presentation to be given to assemblies. we feel that teachers would be more willing to take an hour out of their lesson plan, rather than four days. This presentation is going to be similar to the presentation we gave at irvine high school. So we now have two options to offer the schools. we plan to go to two schools a quarter, every quarter. We want to offer two more programs to students:

1.) A Youth Human Rights Conference
: at the end of spring quarter we want to hold a Human Rights Conference on campus. This conference is going to be open to any of the students who we have taught. we want to hold it on-campus, maybe in Kerkoff. The conference is going to be a 2 day (5 hours a day) event that will most probably take place over a weekend. It will start at 10am and end at 3 pm. Registration begins at 915. We made a tentative schedule.

Saturday: An interactive workshop that focuses on conflict zones such as Sierra Leone, N. Uganda, Burma, Somalia, etc) will be given to them. (2 hours)
Lunch (1 hour)
A film or documentary will be screened(2 hours)

Sunday: A "Take Action" workshop focus sing on lobbying, letter writing campaigns, and working with NGOs and NPOs will be given to the students. An interactive game will be played similar to the role playing game that we played at the GROW convention. After that we will have a guest speaker come and talk to the students. (Right now we are thinking of having the LOST BOYS of SUDAN and John Prendergast to come. I will ask John to invite Don Cheadle to speak. I think that if we can have a celebrity activist as a guest speaker many more students would come.

We will provide lunch for the students in the form of pizza and soda.

2.) A possible lobbying trip to DC: We want to take 3 students with us on the Lobbying Trip to DC that the DAC plans to make. in order for the student to go, they will have to write an essay and complete an application. Once all the essays/applications are turned in, HSAOP will go over them, and decide who the lucky three students will be.

Well let me know what you think about our new ideas. thanks! -anjana

Re: objectives

i think that we should keep on pressuring china to stop funding genocide. i also think that Chris's idea about focusing a campaign on the incoming president is also a very good one.

Objective: Humiliation -- Allison DePasquale

Hey guys,

I definitely am an advocate of targeting the U.S. And when I say that, I mean in the same way that we targeted China for the Olympics: public humiliation. Our efforts towards the U.S. in the past have consisted of letter writing campaigns for no-fly zones, deployment of peace keeping forces, etc. I think its time that we get the U.S. where it hurts.

The combination of minimal media attention on the U.S. and Sudanese intelligence relationship and the absence of this fact from most anti-genocide organizations has kept this information relatively safe from the public. I think we need to really focus on this issue and make a ruckus about it.

Kristen and I have some ideas about serious sit-ins, tapping into our resources, like Prendergast, to make statements, etc. Not sure how plausible the ideas are, just thought I would throw them out there for now.

Basically, I think we should jump on the White House and stomp our feet over the president's bedroom while he is sleeping.

DAC's objective for 2008-2009--Chris Ah San

What should DAC's objective be for the 2008-2009 school year? (Post your thoughts in separate blog entries, for now, so they're visible to people who aren't as familiar with this forum).

My general feeling is that we need to focus our pressure on the next President of the US and the next Congress.

With regards to Congress, there are pro's and con's with regards to all strategies. For the House of Reps, most Congressmen are seeking re-election, and even though these Congressmen are supposed to be the most sensitive to public opinion (due to their short term limits) they still don't hear as much from their constituents on foreign issues (because their constituents don't usually know who their Congressmen is....). The Senate is a good target because it has more authority on foreign issues, but our targets (since California's senators are not gonna be new, and senators from other states without leadership posts aren't inclined to listen) should be the leaders of Congress. Here's the catch with an Obama presidency (and I'd be willing to bet money on the claim that Obama will win): many current Democratic leaders of Congress would likely be considered for leadership posts in the Obama administration. This means that we can pressure them (as they will be in a position to make policy in the next administration) and their Congressional successors (those senators who will takeover their vacated posts, whether they are Republican or Democrat). Those are some of my ideas on pressuring Congress.

For the next president, during the election (as soon as we decide that Bush is not getting anywhere fast enough to make a significant difference in Darfur before his term is over) we can pressure the candidates into promising specific action for Darfur while on the campaign trail. The presidential candidates did already issue a joint statement saying that they promise to take action for Darfur, but nothing specific was promised on how this would happen and what their end goal would be (besides ending the genocide, but there's more to this than that). Also, although they may have issued a joint statement, it's easier to hold them accountable for it if they say something while the media spotlight is on them. When we do this, the presidential campaigns need to understand that this is an organized effort (meaning, once the next prez gets into the White House, they should be prepared for us to be organized enough to hold them accountable for their promises). Otherwise, as the next prez becomes preoccupied with other things, they might forget that there's a political organization waiting for them to follow through with their promises.

We might also want to consider the message we want the presidential candidates to send. The fact that we've got an important War on Terror to fight, and the fact that we're very much bogged down in the Middle East, has been overshadowing this election, and because this affects Americans' views on their country's ability to effect meaningful change in the world, it can be a problem when it comes to taking on another huge issue. In this context, it will be hard for the Darfur issue not to look like a presidential tangent (like Iraq, for those of you who view it that way). But because the War on Terror is essentially a war of ideologies, Darfur is a litmus test for the concern of Americans over global commonweal. In other words, meaningful change in Darfur is a way to the moral high ground the US needs to truly win the War on Terror. Essentially, the message we might want to have the candidates send is that the US needs to renew its image as a global leader in the world, and helping Darfur is critical in doing that.

When the next president is elected, if we were successful in getting them to make a public promise, we can remind them of their promise to take swift action on this issue. For now, I'm out of ideas....

As far as DAC's chosen objective, just keep in mind that we won't be shoving our standard projects off to the side, like humanitarian issues and individual issue campaigns and such. We'll continue to lend a helping hand to other Darfur campaigns whenever we can, so no need to worry about us not doing that. Things like humanitarian issues and congressional funding issues will always be there, but these are much easier problems to address then our long term goal of ending the genocide. So our objective should fall under this long term goal.

Also, as far as pressuring China to come to the table, this to me is going to be an uphill battle with the Olympics being so temporally distant from the next Presidential inauguration. This goal of the SEAL campaign (to get Bush and China to come to the table at the same time, and to use the Olympics campaign to culminate in this effect) is not looking like it will come to fruition, and Allison and Rohan could tell you that it's been pretty disorganized at the national level. This summer, we can do what we can to pressure China via the Olympics. One thing is for certain--the US is the only country in a politically viable position to lead on this issue. And as much as I hate to make China and the world wait for new US leadership, hopefully we can reward China by redeeming its image (in a way) for having taken on this issue and for cooperating with our new leadership on this issue. Obviously I'm being vague and don't know exactly what activists can do in persuading China to come to the table, so perhaps we should consult with John Prendergast and the national leadership for this movement on how to go about this. Let me know if you have your own ideas. The question essentially is, on day one of the next administration, how do we prepare China to be willing to arrange meeting with our next administrative officials to talk about Darfur?

Trip policy--Chris Ah San

ok with everyone?

(3) Transportation --- We all will be driving up to San Francisco due to several gracious people who have volunteered their car and themselves. The cost is partially subsidized by our fundraiser (TV taping) and funds from Dream for Darfur. All those who attended the TV taping and/or are driving up to SF, will not have to pay for the trip. Everyone else who has been working on this campaign (CPPs, CODs) will have to pay $20 for the trip. Anyone who wants to go but has not been involved in the rally planning will have to pay the full amount, which is $35. This money needs to be given to Rohan or myself before we leave. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

SF trip costs funded by SOOF--Chris

Should we spend $350 in SOOF on transportation costs for the VISA rally? All $660 left in our account needs to be spent May 30th, and we'll being spending about $100 of that on letters as well.

Applying to funding sources

I know you some of you come up with great ideas for projects and stuff and want to apply to a funding source without delay. I truly admire that kind of spontaneity and inspiration, so please don't get me wrong on this, but I would appreciate it that if you want to apply to a funding source that you generally give me and the board a week's notice before you begin the process. I request this for a number of reasons: we can only apply to so many funding sources for a limited number of times before we're ineligible; also, the application process has to be done in the right way, and as the signatory who's held responsible to the CSP office I'd like to be kept in the loop so that I can keep them in the loop (plus, I'd like to make sure you get all the funding you need for your project(s)!). DAC is always doing a lot of different projects and so we can only put our name on so many funding applications, and because of this I'd also like to ensure that this is all being done in a fair way.

If you'd like to say anything regarding this, please give me your input! Thanks all!

Notice on Board meetings--Chris Ah San

Just to remind everyone: if you're absent from a Board meeting and don't notify me in advance about your absence, the Board could end up making decisions without you. If you don't notify me in advance, I won't be able to table discussion that's pertinent to your committee.

Membership Meeting agenda and Board meeting rules--Chris Ah San

Remember that if you want something on the membership meeting agenda, call me before the meeting (give me a day in advance since I have to put together the agenda and accomodate peoples' requests).

Reminder: You must tell me no later than 24 hours in advance of any Board meeting if you won't be coming. I have to be able to plan Board meetings knowing that certain people won't be there.

Give me your input here if you want. Thanks!

USAC endorsements--Chris Ah San

Hey Board-
I feel that I should at least bring this up in case anyone is interested (and to stay true to my promise of keeping everyone in the loop). DAC has the opportunity to endorse candidates in the USAC election, and if you want to do this, please bring it up with me.

I'm personally opposed to the idea since DAC has always strived to remain as apolitical as possible (to the point where we don't hurt our own cause at least). Again, however, it's up to you all if we should do this.

I will be at the endorsement hearings, however, to ask candidates questions about funding and whatnot. So even if we don't endorse anyone, feel free to suggest topics I should inquire on, and I'll be sure to get back to you with their responses.

Just wanted to throw this out there since you all deserve to know what's going on. Post your input here if you have any.

DAC Co-Sponsorship of Bruin Fems event--Chris Ah San

Should we cosponsor this event? See below.

Hello All,
My name is Sara and I am with the Bruin Feminists for Equality. We are going to be having an event on MAY 5TH IN KERCKHOFF GRAND SALON. This event is somewhat of a mixer/get together/info night. We would like each club, which is interested in participating, to set up a table and represent their organization. The event will go on from 6-10PM (we will probably end it by 8 or 9) and we are going to have a few refreshments. If you are unable to participate then please invite your members and friends, come by and get to know other amazing people from different organizations. If you are interested in participating, then please just send me an email.Thank you and I hope to see you all,

Sara Mengesha
Co-President, Bruin Feminists for Equality

WaMu - $409.54

SOOF - $662.25
Darfur Genocide Awareness Week - $3196.00
Donations - $497.29

I don't know how accurate that is though, because I see the $150 that we spent from donations to pay for the rights to screen but with regard to SOOF, it looks like we've only spent $1.75...have we not been using the SOOF? And also, in regard to our allocation for our awareness week, it looks like we haven't used anything...

Updates for OERC

Welcome our new VP Rohan and AC Vice Chair Chris S.--Chris

Rohan Shamapant is our new Vice President of DAC. He'll be doing this along with the Advocacy Chair work since the VP job doesn't require much work, except in the case where he fills in for the President at the necessary times, in which case Chris Schwartz would temporarily take on the position of Chair of the AC.

Also, Chris Schwartz will be the Advocacy Committee's Vice Chair.

Welcome our new OERC Co-Chair Sabrina--Chris

Hey Everyone--
Sabrina Oukil is our new OERC Co-Chair!! Please welcome her to the DAC Board.

TV Taping Fundraiser--Chris

DAC is going to do a TV Taping fundraiser, where the proceeds go to DAC.

Andrew DeGiorgio is organizing it ((661)578-0403). It will most likely be during Week 4 or Week 6. Funds from this program will help us get to Foster City!

Welcome our new EPC Chair--Chris

Tiffany Man! Yay!

She'll be facilitating the collaboration between DAC and the MM Awareness committee, and possibly creating other events.

Weekly Newsletter--Chris

If anybody has any announcements and would like to post them in the DAC weekly newsletter, you can e-mail them to either Kristal or I and we'll make sure they go in the next newsletter.

Peace Coalition--Chris

I was approached again about joining the Peace Coalition. I expressed my concerns about DAC's membership in the coalition potentially compromising our promise to stay apolitical on non-genocide issues. PC's rep is looking into what kind of networking relationship can be formed between the coalition and DAC. More details to come.

Hunger Banquet--Chris

DAC will be participating in the Hunger Banquet next Weds, 4/16, at 6:30pm. I'm currently in the process of working out the details with Erina on tabling. If you are interested in tabling, let us know!

Thanking Sheila Breeding--Chris Ah San

Raisa, who's been working with Sheila throughout the year, reminded me that we should thank her in some way before the end of the year. Let me know what you think about how we should do this. Thanks!

New Event Programming Committee Chair--Chris Ah San

I'm thinking about asking Tiffany Man to take the position since we need someone to serve as a liaison from the Mighty Mic Awareness Committee, the group organizing the Genocide Awareness Week (Tiffany would facilitate our work with their group). I already spoke with other EPC members who were either about to graduate or mentioned that they weren't sure they could take on the responsibility (since they practically just joined the committee). Tiffany has a lot of good experience, plus she is a second year which means she can provide continuity. Let me know what you think.

Proposed SoCal speaker series--Chris Ah San

I spoke with Michael Stimpfel today and he wants to set up a speaker series on African issues. The goal is to raise awareness about different humanitarian issues affecting conflict areas in Africa. We would be utilizing the resources of various non-profits, including the "Lost Boys" of Sudan.

We discussed the possibility of giving one event a test run this Spring Quarter. It might be too late to make it work, but Michael is going to see if we might get lucky (whether or not this works depends on the availability of different SoCal STAND chapters' resources).

The speaker series is likely to happen during Fall Quarter, and should I get the green light (which is likely) I will have to find someone serve as the UCLA STAND chapter rep to this project.

Genocide Awareness Week at UCLA--Chris Ah San

Mighty Mic's Outreach and Awareness committee will be programming this event that is set to take place week 9 of Spring Quarter. I've spoken with Rohan about coordinating the Advocacy Committee's work with the Mighty Mic event organizers to ensure that we shore up a lot of student support for taking action in Darfur during that week. DAC's name is what GAW is under on the BOD application knowing that DAC itself is not programming any huge events during Spring Quarter (if we do happen to put on any events, we still have CPC and CPC mini-fund available to us, as well as other grants for on-campus events). DAC was allocated $3196 for GAW.

Lost Boys of Sudan offer--Chris Ah San

Michael Stimpfel from Pasadena City College STAND has offered to bring two of the "Lost Boys" to UCLA. He thinks that hosting a presentation of theirs at PCC wouldn't be as effective and wanted to bring it to UCLA. The presentation would include, first, a screening of the "Lost Boys of Sudan" film and then the two "Lost Boys" would speak at the end. He hasn't given me a date and I'm waiting for an answer to my questions about possible costs that such an event would entail for DAC. Is this something everyone would be interested in?

DAC's Official meeting space and times options

Ackerman/Kerckhoff room reservation

Tuesdays 7-8:50pm 10th and Finals week in Kerckhoff 135

Tuesdays 9-11pm Weeks 1-9 in Ackerman 2410

Tuesdays 7-10pm Weeks 1-Finals in MS 5147

Unfortunately this is all we've got, so we're most likely stuck with a room with a lecture setting (unmovable desks).

DAC and Jazz/Reggae Festival

Hello,
My name is Diana and I am the co-director of the Jazz/Reggae Festival Sustainability Committee for this year's festival. The theme is "a weekend of peace, love and music" and we are emphasizing sustainability by implementing certain measures into the festival(solar powered stage, recycling, biodegradable dishware) as well as featuring educational sections where guests can learn about sustainability, peace, and other issues. In keeping with this spirit, we are inviting environmental and social justie-related student groups to table alongside nonprofit organizations and educate students about your projects as well as perhaps recruit volunteers. The festival will take place May 25-26(Memorial Day weekend). Please let me know if your group would be interested in having a table and we will reserve it for you as well as send out further details. Space is limited, so please let me know ASAP. Feel free to call or email me with any questions. Thanks!

First post...

Hello all,

This is Rohan Shamapant. I'm taking over for Beverly, so nice to meet you all.

I met with my committee (three other people) and discussed with them the new path DAC is going to take, especially the Letter Writing Committee (which I believe will now be known as Advocacy Committee). We are going to be working very closely with Anjana on the Lobbying Campaign. Our plan is to address pertinent issues that the lobbyists will be targeting congressmen for, and then getting a massive amount of signed letters for them to take along with them. I met with Anjana tonight and we decided on the following issues:
-Increasing humanitarian aid
-The no-fly zone
-The ceasefire
-UN helicopters
-House Res. 1011

The trip will hopefully take place 3rd week of Spring quarter on Thursday. In regards to getting the letters signed, Chris and I have been working on an "outreach" or "liaison" method to help us get MASSIVE numbers - that's what will really count. A full explanation of the method is in the attachment of this week's general e-mail. Please, please, PLEASE check it out and see if there is anyway you can help. It will have a huge impact, and I need to get it started somewhere. It is much appreciated.

We will begin working on the main letter during Spring Break, to be ready first day of Spring Quarter. No further updates.

Cheers,
Rohan.

Aid Still Required Campaign

Aid Still Required just became a new sponsored org for DAC. Check out their website and campaign for Darfur at AidStillRequired.org.

Beverly Fergusson, who is our contact from ASR, asked "her fellow Bruins" to help her blast her campaign's message out to UCLA students. I didn't promise anything concrete but just simply said that we'd do all we could to help, and she appreciates whatever contribution we can make to the campaign. Her campaign is working closely with celebrities and thus has a target audience of young people, which is why she's reached out to DAC (a club she remembers from her days at UCLA!).

Basically the idea for us is to reach out to students through online networking (Facebook and whatever else). There's a video of Kobe Bryant speaking out for Darfur that I've posted in my Facebook status, and I encourage you all to do the same! And so, as you might have guessed, that's the video she wants us to "blast out" to our friends and fellow Bruins.

If you all have any ideas as to what we can do to help ASR our any other relevant discussion for that matter, post here! Thanks!

focus on advocacy

sorry, this is re-posted because there was a confusing typo in the last blog:

with our on-campus efforts focused on advocacy (letter writing and lobbying) next quarter (excluding the things mighty mic needs us to do), will this provide a strong enough direction for DAC? will this help prevent the problem of having our resources overstretched?

membership meeting suggestions

hey board-
i appreciate all the suggestions you gave me tonight regarding the membership meeting experience. would you all say it's a good idea to cut out something like introductions in the future?

also, i'm happy to take suggestions regarding the meeting room if we don't end up getting the meeting room of our dreams next quarter. the only problem is that i can't guarantee sheila will be able to let us reserve a "roundtable room" whenever we want since her secretary recently told me explicitly that that was "against CSP policy". basically, when we do get a room there, there are no guarantees that we can keep it since sheila can't officially loan out rooms to us directly.

let me know what you think!

further updates from rwanda coalition - stui

We would like to plan a trip up to San Francisco on Wednesday, April 9th, to protest against the Beijing Olympics. We do not yet know the details of this rally. But keep it on your calendars!

Also, USC is holding a mini week of awareness between April 14 and 18. This will culminate in a concert to be held on the 18th. The concert features Manzi Kalisi (Daddy Cassanova) and Amie Leogrand (Lion Eye), two Rwandan music artists who sing about the genocide in Darfur. We want to do what we can to help them promote that concert. We consider it a part of a greater project to launch an MTV concert series in refugee camps throughout Africa. Regardless of the fate of that project, this concert at USC is, nevertheless, an potentially big idea of theirs we want to help promote.

rwanda coalition - stui

we had a meeting with USC's stand chapter yesterday, and i'm so glad to hear that so many of you are pumped! i will formally announce the project to the rest of the DAC tomorrow evening, but i thought i'd give you all a heads up.

we are planning a trip to rwanda :)
several ideas are floating around, but one of the more exciting one's is the possibility of attending "Ingando" which is taken from the Kinyarwanda verb "kugandika," meaning a halting of normal activities to reflect. Ingando is a national program run by the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC) through which perpetrators and survivors of the genocide come together to learn about the history of their country, political and socioeconomic issues in Rwanda and the greater continent of Africa, as well as their individual rights, obligations and duties.

we have a number of partners in Rwanda, thanks to the coalition-building of Kathy and USC students who visited Rwanda this winter break. through Ibuka, we have come to enlist the help of Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza. we, have truly become an "International Student Coalition Against Genocidal Indifference" with the addition of student genocide organization, Association des Etudiants Réscapes du Génocide (AERG).

in regard to what we will do while we are there, we are discussing those options. i think that for those of us in DAC who want to go on this trip, it doesn't quite matter what we will do there, because simply being there promises unique opportunities for us to be a part of rebuilding post-genocide Rwanda. however, with regard to the idea of bringing in the greater UCLA community (school of film & television, school of law, school of business, department of psychology, etc.), we must lay more solid groundwork.

for those of you interested in getting involved, please email me at rwanda.dac@gmail.com

we need help!

updates:
  • Anjana has scheduled a meeting with the manage of O'Hara's (the bar formerly known as "Maloney's). we are trying to work out a special event where we will get a percentage of the profits for a given night.
  • Dodo is going to write a viewpoint for the daily bruin about this trip, and to publicize the event by lavishing O'Hara's with praise for taking action against the genocide.
  • Anjana, Dodo, and myself will pitch the idea to O'Hara's
  • I (stuart) have spoken with Sheila Breeding who has given me the contacts of several people experienced with planning these sort of travel programs. we're gonna need legal counsel with regard to protecting ourselves from liability. we'll need as much of this figured out before even thinking of recruiting UCLA students to join us on the trip.

If you would like to help, there is help to be had! Please let me know if you're interested in helping/joining us on the trip.

the shirts are in!!! please solicit your social-justice impassioned friends!!! we're selling them for $16-$20. Please tell people that! It actually is effective in 1) making $16 not seem like too much and 2) causing some of them to pop you an andrew jackson without a second thought "keep the change!"

we also have candy to sell!!!
at first i thought, we'd save it for next quarter, seeing as how we're all so busy with finals, but then i realized, this is the perfect time to fatten people up with candy! so if any of your dormers are up to it, i'd like to give you candy to sell. they actually are selling a lot easier than i thought. i brought them to a kkpsi meeting, and i sold the entire box! we have about four more boxes to sell. we have chocolate bars, airheads, gummibears, skittles, and starbursts. everything is a dollar each, but airheads and gummibears are 50cents each.

if anyone wants to order a shirt, have them email: merchandise.dac@gmail.com

RC update - stui

oh, almost forgot:

so we talked with kathy a few weeks ago (anjana, chris, and i) and among several things, she told us about these "reconciliation camps" they have in rwanda, where they bring both survivors and perpetrators to discuss the genocide, and allow the truth to come out. but apparently, they are allowing us to bring ucla students to these camps over the summer. of course, we are all invited, but anjana and i have been trying to reach out the the school of film & television to bring students interested in making documentaries abroad as well. it's taking a lot of bridgebuilding, and i just wanted to keep you all in the loop.

they are also bringing some rwandan musicians to usc for a concert. it's going to take place over our spring break, so if any of you are interested, you're invited to both help out during that week, and to attend the concert.

i think that's mostly it.

:D yayy

Finance Chair / RC Chair update - Stui

hey guys, sorry i haven't updated you all in a while, but i have a lot to update you on:

"stop genocide in sudan" shirts have been ordered in kelly green. We were trying to get them in by this week, but danäe's aunt says that because of the rush, she can only get them to us by this friday :/ while that's disappointing, danäe had the great idea of having people sign up to buy shirts. we can even allow them to prepay, in which case they'd only have to pick them up from us. however, please let everyone know, we're gonna have to sell them for $20 to make a decent profit. danäe's working on the order form. we have 75 shirts to sell.

we're also working on ordering rwanda coalition bracelets and nalgene water bottles for next quarter. BUT we won't be ablt to order them until the money from shirts starts rolling in. We're looking to make $200 profit from shirt sales. please ask your family/friends to support us!!!

we've bought candy!!! we'll be selling them as soon as we can get inspiring messages printed.

african channel has wired us money into our wamu account. if you (as a board member) need help accessing any money (wamu, soof, cpc mini, cac, and otherwise) let me know. i'm also gonna find out how to access our donations fund in sga.

the flyers for the movie screening and benefit concert have been designed! i will post them on my facebook soon. you can save them from there if you wish (and make it your profile pic!!)

that's all for now. i'm in abnormal psych right now, learning about substance abuse. hope you guys are doing well :)

Raisa Co chair updates

1.) Talked to Tents of Hope Head and he says he may have someone who can pay for our tent and supplies and have it shipped by next week for free. We just need to have a secure address to have it shipped to. I am thinking a dorm mailbox. It is just a duffle. (terry okayed it being paid for with some conditions that are no biggie)

2.) I called Terry today and she said she would let us know about the tent approval situation by the end of the day.

3.) pooja is willing to do spoken word at the speakout! we just have to finalize a yes to her ASAP! EPC get on that.

4.) Africa channel is giving us 400 bucks for the film. 300 for the rights and 100 for the mics. They asked how much it would cost to have a banner up at the speakout tuesday. I need estimates fast!!

5.) I sent stuart the africa channel logo that they would like on the flyer. remember it is SUPPORTED BY.. I also asked stuart about getting a check sent to us the fastest way possible??

6.) Waiting for joanne to respond about the film rights faxing?

7.) need to make sure that we can set up the tents of hope either in bruin plaza on friday but hopefully on tuesday at the speakout in front of meyerhoff.

8.) joanne secured Moore 100 i believe, we just need to get mics!!! hopefully we can use the funds and get reimbursed???

Chris's meeting with Terry update

Update from my meeting with Terry: She’ll let us know by the end of today whether Ken, the CSP Social Programs Director, will permit us to finalize a deal with the Africa Channel as a sponsor. She asks that we acknowledge AC’s support in our publicity by stating “event support by” instead of “event sponsored by”. She gives her permission, so we’re just waiting for Ken. Since AC’s typed proposal didn’t contain many concrete details (she had questions about what they wanted to do with the banner, for instance) she’d like us to keep updating her on things AC wants to do at the event.

For issues regarding further sponsorship (in case we want to pursue a deal asking for more money from AC): Terry would like us to always keep her “in the loop” and continue to receive her permission to enter into any further deals we might make with AC. We have to get her permission before finalizing any deal.

Also, she generally warned me about making deals we can’t keep or aren’t good for us (i.e. we get a lot less out of a deal than AC). Student groups have had a problem with this in the past. She said, however, that there shouldn’t be any problems since it’s not like we’re asking Budweiser to sponsor us.

FC Stuart

Danäe will get a couple fundraising projects off the ground by this weekend.
CPC-MINI FUND PROPOSAL DUE TOMORROW for Darfur Week of Awareness.
Antonia is doing some internal "audits," so project heads, please help her out in accounting for all of our various funds.

Co Chair: Raisa update

Called Meals by Genet (the ethiopian restaurant we used last year for Darfur Awareness Week)

I know that the funding proposal is due tomorrow, but Genet said that I should make an appt to meet with her to discuss estimates at her restaurant to show what she can provide. So that would be way after the the proposal was due.

she can't do the deal she did for us last year even though she cares about Darfur Action Committee which was 250 dollars for 4 trays of food. She did say she might be able to work out something where we pay that amount but also give her part of the donations which i am not really sure about.

Anyways, she is excited to have us for dinner if we plan on having our retreat dinner there. btw we need drivers. I can take 8. Stu can you drive? and natalie won't be able drive because its her moms bday and is going to her mom's for dinner.

Also, waiting for the response from the t-shirt company on reimbursment or shirts.

RSVP: Maryam can't go. Natalie can go for a little bit. Kristal can go.

stay tuned fo mo!

peace <3

Publicity Update by Kristen

Hey guys

so this week...

-Allison talked to the CSP about shirts. They said contact our advisor, so she is in charge of finding out about that from Chris
-i got info from Joanne on finance. I will try and get on it tonight.
-talked to Rohan about letters. He will have 110 copies in Kierkoff every Monday morning at 9:30. The door was locked today so he put them under. He will also check up one a week to see how the stack is.
-talked to Erina about tabling a couple of times. She's been making calls, sending emails, ect. People either don't respond or give her a no. We talked today about ways to spice it up and make tabling more enticing for DAC members. I'm hoping having some music and making it look cool to do will help. Suggestions are more than welcome.
-Erina told me that there is someone in charge of fliers with DAC info on them. She thought she knew who is was, so she is getting back to me.
-I send out an email re: another tabling coordinator. So far no luck.

i think that's it. ill post later if i remember more.
