FC Stuart

Danäe will get a couple fundraising projects off the ground by this weekend.
CPC-MINI FUND PROPOSAL DUE TOMORROW for Darfur Week of Awareness.
Antonia is doing some internal "audits," so project heads, please help her out in accounting for all of our various funds.


Co Chair: Raisa update

Called Meals by Genet (the ethiopian restaurant we used last year for Darfur Awareness Week)

I know that the funding proposal is due tomorrow, but Genet said that I should make an appt to meet with her to discuss estimates at her restaurant to show what she can provide. So that would be way after the the proposal was due. 

she can't do the deal she did for us last year even though she cares about Darfur Action Committee which was 250 dollars for 4 trays of food. She did say she might be able to work out something where we pay that amount but also give her part of the donations which i am not really sure about. 

Anyways, she is excited to have us for dinner if we plan on having our retreat dinner there. btw we need drivers. I can take 8. Stu can you drive? and natalie won't be able drive because its her moms bday and is going to her mom's for dinner. 

Also, waiting for the response from the t-shirt company on reimbursment or shirts.

RSVP: Maryam can't go. Natalie can go for a little bit. Kristal can go.

  • RC info-session was a success!! with one interested student present... :/ okay, not so much a success as it was a disappointment, but that wasn't as disappointing as he not showing up to our meeting today :( hopefully, he calls me back. i've already emailed him and called him, but i think i may have to plan another info session...it's hard starting another student group...
  • i will speak with kathy on thursday, but apparently she has good news.
  • beverly/rohan drafted a letter!!! thank you!!!

HSAOP updates

we had two meetings, one yesterday and one today and basically went over cirriculum for the presentation tommorrow. we are still deciding on what we want to do with fairfax high once the program is done. we will ask the students tommorrow or next week whether they would like to start their own letter writing campaign. i just recieved the donated copies of "not on our watch" in the mail on friday. i will be bringing them with me to the school either tommorrow or on thursday. i have also spoken to jeff toulane about john p's honorarium contract for mighty mic. he should be getting back to me soon. thanks all, see u guys tommorrow!

Hey guys

so this week...

-Allison talked to the CSP about shirts. They said contact our advisor, so she is in charge of finding out about that from Chris
-i got info from Joanne on finance. I will try and get on it tonight.
-talked to Rohan about letters. He will have 110 copies in Kierkoff every Monday morning at 9:30. The door was locked today so he put them under. He will also check up one a week to see how the stack is.
-talked to Erina about tabling a couple of times. She's been making calls, sending emails, ect. People either don't respond or give her a no. We talked today about ways to spice it up and make tabling more enticing for DAC members. I'm hoping having some music and making it look cool to do will help. Suggestions are more than welcome.
-Erina told me that there is someone in charge of fliers with DAC info on them. She thought she knew who is was, so she is getting back to me.
-I send out an email re: another tabling coordinator. So far no luck.

i think that's it. ill post later if i remember more.

spoke with erina about ways to publicize volunteering for tabling. suggested she should make a facebook event and e-mail the leadership listserve before making phone calls.

sent erina all of DAC's sign-in sheets so she has more potential volunteers to call on.

I haven't been doing much but calling and responding to emails. I emailed Joanne to schedule an EPC organization short meeting for some oversight tips this weekend and waiting for response. I am also waiting on any new information discussed with Erina for tabling. 

I am also repeating that if joanne needs help with the mini fund due tomorrow, that she should notify us right away because we are willing to help or help find help! gl.

Raisa Co Chair update

Had meeting with Chris to catch up on what was missed at last board meeting. Waiting for chris to send me updated tasks for my committees. 

Received to do lists from PC and EPC and will follow up on those deadlines with them. 

Called PC and EPC to make sure they are going to be able to follow through with deadlines on inventory. 

Will give task lists to PC and EPC very very soon. My mac is have administrator errors that won't let me install anything. I am taking it to get fixed on wednesday so i will email you all information about your committees.

-have begun to brainstorm for the retreat cirriculum: i met a woman who runs an activism workshop though yoga...thought that was kinda cool....
-so far kristen has been the only one to get things out of my garage, the only other committee that needs to come is LWC
-i have not yet began to work on lobbying, but i will as soon as i am able
-i turned in my application for mighty mic; tommorrow i have a meeting with another campus group that might be interested in helping us fund for JP to visit
- due to the holiday weekend, i was unable to contact the UCLA Med, Nursuing, or Dental School, but i will contact them tommorrow...welp, thats about it!

Anjana Puri OERC HSAOP date switch

due to schedule conflicts, the dates for HSAOP have been changed. we will now be going on the 22nd (tomorrow) and 29th of Jan, and the 7th of Feb.

HSAOP 1

week one went great! we had a few minor dificulties but besides that, everything went well. the students seemed to enjoy it and so did mrs harris. we are going back on the 21, 29th of jan and on the 7th of feb. chris i got ur voice message, and i am totally fine with contacting the med school and nursing school and densitry school, it might have to wait till after the weekend, though, cuz i think that the offices will be closed.

mighty mic update

-Sponsorship committee said that anjana can find marketing board contacts for the nursing, medical, and dental schools.
-MM steering cmt requested that we cap John P's honorarium at $5k, and that negotiations start at his minimum request of $3K.

Raisa Co Chair update

Hey guys,

I have no new updates other than starting the blogspot post and working on the DAC retreat schedule. Also, I am working on Kristins, Anjanas, and Joannes calenders. My word is not working right now, but once its up and running i will send Chris the calender drafts!! 

I need to schedule a time to meet with Chris about tomorrows board meeting.

Pasadena City College Event

Talked to Michael Stimpfel about an event the Pasadena City College STAND chapter is putting on to benefit NGO's. May 7, 2008. Wants to bring a refugee to speak about the situation in Darfur. I asked him what exactly he wants from us, besides to come to the event. I may bring up a proposal at a future Board meeting regarding this following a meeting with Michael.

Retreat Run Through Week 4 Meeting 7:15-9:15

Remember to tell your committees that Tuesday week 4 committee meeting is cancelled! Tell them that they should attend retreat for the committee conferences since the tuesday meeting will be cancelled

Also, please send in your suggestions for food tally for lunch, restaurant outing, and snacks, etc.

We will be doing a committee tally in the beginning of our retreat day to see what committees members will be interested in participating in.
