RC update - stui

oh, almost forgot:

so we talked with kathy a few weeks ago (anjana, chris, and i) and among several things, she told us about these "reconciliation camps" they have in rwanda, where they bring both survivors and perpetrators to discuss the genocide, and allow the truth to come out. but apparently, they are allowing us to bring ucla students to these camps over the summer. of course, we are all invited, but anjana and i have been trying to reach out the the school of film & television to bring students interested in making documentaries abroad as well. it's taking a lot of bridgebuilding, and i just wanted to keep you all in the loop.

they are also bringing some rwandan musicians to usc for a concert. it's going to take place over our spring break, so if any of you are interested, you're invited to both help out during that week, and to attend the concert.

i think that's mostly it.

:D yayy

Finance Chair / RC Chair update - Stui

hey guys, sorry i haven't updated you all in a while, but i have a lot to update you on:

"stop genocide in sudan" shirts have been ordered in kelly green. We were trying to get them in by this week, but danäe's aunt says that because of the rush, she can only get them to us by this friday :/ while that's disappointing, danäe had the great idea of having people sign up to buy shirts. we can even allow them to prepay, in which case they'd only have to pick them up from us. however, please let everyone know, we're gonna have to sell them for $20 to make a decent profit. danäe's working on the order form. we have 75 shirts to sell.

we're also working on ordering rwanda coalition bracelets and nalgene water bottles for next quarter. BUT we won't be ablt to order them until the money from shirts starts rolling in. We're looking to make $200 profit from shirt sales. please ask your family/friends to support us!!!

we've bought candy!!! we'll be selling them as soon as we can get inspiring messages printed.

african channel has wired us money into our wamu account. if you (as a board member) need help accessing any money (wamu, soof, cpc mini, cac, and otherwise) let me know. i'm also gonna find out how to access our donations fund in sga.

the flyers for the movie screening and benefit concert have been designed! i will post them on my facebook soon. you can save them from there if you wish (and make it your profile pic!!)

that's all for now. i'm in abnormal psych right now, learning about substance abuse. hope you guys are doing well :)

Raisa Co chair updates

1.) Talked to Tents of Hope Head and he says he may have someone who can pay for our tent and supplies and have it shipped by next week for free. We just need to have a secure address to have it shipped to. I am thinking a dorm mailbox. It is just a duffle. (terry okayed it being paid for with some conditions that are no biggie)

2.) I called Terry today and she said she would let us know about the tent approval situation by the end of the day.

3.) pooja is willing to do spoken word at the speakout! we just have to finalize a yes to her ASAP! EPC get on that.

4.) Africa channel is giving us 400 bucks for the film. 300 for the rights and 100 for the mics. They asked how much it would cost to have a banner up at the speakout tuesday. I need estimates fast!!

5.) I sent stuart the africa channel logo that they would like on the flyer. remember it is SUPPORTED BY.. I also asked stuart about getting a check sent to us the fastest way possible??

6.) Waiting for joanne to respond about the film rights faxing?

7.) need to make sure that we can set up the tents of hope either in bruin plaza on friday but hopefully on tuesday at the speakout in front of meyerhoff.

8.) joanne secured Moore 100 i believe, we just need to get mics!!! hopefully we can use the funds and get reimbursed???

I talked to Tiffany, she is going to email me info slash call me after Event's has their meeting tonight.

Joanne is coming to the publicity committee meeting tomorrow night at 7pm. and we're going to rock it. and plot out:

-fliers, how many, how to distribute to SAP people.
-dividing up chalking, classroom announcements, who to hit up, ect.
-what we want on the post cards to give to Jessica.
and probably other things i just cant think of now because my brain is fried. un petit peu.

also, i posted on other Darfur groups on facebook about Darfur Awareness Week, so hopefully some more people will join the DAW at UCLA group on facebook.

i think thats it.

Chris's meeting with Terry update

Update from my meeting with Terry: She’ll let us know by the end of today whether Ken, the CSP Social Programs Director, will permit us to finalize a deal with the Africa Channel as a sponsor. She asks that we acknowledge AC’s support in our publicity by stating “event support by” instead of “event sponsored by”. She gives her permission, so we’re just waiting for Ken. Since AC’s typed proposal didn’t contain many concrete details (she had questions about what they wanted to do with the banner, for instance) she’d like us to keep updating her on things AC wants to do at the event.

For issues regarding further sponsorship (in case we want to pursue a deal asking for more money from AC): Terry would like us to always keep her “in the loop” and continue to receive her permission to enter into any further deals we might make with AC. We have to get her permission before finalizing any deal.

Also, she generally warned me about making deals we can’t keep or aren’t good for us (i.e. we get a lot less out of a deal than AC). Student groups have had a problem with this in the past. She said, however, that there shouldn’t be any problems since it’s not like we’re asking Budweiser to sponsor us.
